Tiruvannamalai Learning Centre

About Us

Tiruvannamalai Learning Centre opened its doors on July 1st 2009, with a view to creating an atmosphere that carries a sense of wonder and joy, where education relates directly to the life of a growing child. To begin we have welcomed some twenty children, an international mix alongside local Tamil kids. Children vary from the age of 3 to 9, representing a mix of nationalities, religions and economic backgrounds. Classes are small with the kindergarten for the younger children, while the older children form a second group.

Academic lessons focus on the study of English, Tamil, Maths and Science. These subjects are taught through topic based, interactive study. To date classes are being led by two very experienced teachers, one from the West and the other from Tamil Nadu. English and Tamil are given equal emphasis at the school and the older children are encouraged to speak and write in both languages.

In addition, our timetable embraces an array of other activities, including gardening, cooking, building, nature walks, carpentry, clay work and many indoor and outdoor games. We invite parents and people from the local community to come and share their skills with the children, from local potters and sculptors, to artists, musicians and gardeners. All activities are designed to improve life-skills and promote a culture of questioning in a balanced learning environment.
